What is a LAM (Liquid Applied Membrane)
A Liquid-applied membrane (LAM) is a liquid-based roofing coating suitable that cures as a fully monolithic roofing system. LAM’s are suitable for many waterproofing and roofing applications. The membrane is formed by a coating that cures to form a rubber-like elastomeric that can be applied to a variety of substrates, including asphalt, bitumen, and concrete.
Silicone Coatings
Silicone coatings perform incredibly well in high UV environments where a reflective roof is desired. Silicone also performs much better than comparable roof systems and coatings in locations where precipitation and ponding water are of chief concern due to its incredible water resistance.
Acrylic Coatings
Acrylic water-based coatings also work extremely well for high UV environments where a reflective roof is desired. They can be colored, but generally are sold in white, tan, and grey. Many specialized versions are made to be compatible with specific substrates. Acrylic coatings are generally the most effective in terms of cost but lack durability and longevity when compared to Urethane or Silicon based coatings.
Polyurethane Coatings
Polyurethane coatings are typically solvent-based and come in two main types, aromatic (low UV resistance) and aliphatic (high UV resistance). The chief advantage of a Urethane based coating is high durability and abrasion resistance. They work well in hail-prone regions, areas saturated with chemicals and grease, or areas where a roof is exposed to heavy foot traffic.
